Finding the Right Engagement Ring
If you’re shopping for an engagement ring, that probably means you’re thinking about proposing! Congratulations! We are so excited for you and for this huge next step in your relationship. There are so many beautiful places to propose and have an engagement session in Santa Barbara, but we’re getting ahead of ourselves! If you’re shopping for an engagement ring in Santa Barbara there are a few things you need to know so you can find the perfect ring for the person of your dreams!
Choosing the Perfect Diamond for Your Love
Engagement rings come in many different sizes and shapes. They can range from having incredibly detailed bands to simple, classic, and smooth. When searching for the perfect engagement ring for your soon-to-be fiancé you’ll want to determine which diamond shape they like. A few of the more common shapes are round, oval, and princess.
Round cut diamonds are by far the most common and are known for the way the light shines off of the center stone. Oval is an elongated version of the round shape and tends to look best on long slender fingers. Princess cut diamonds are a square version of the round shape and is considered a fancy cut.
Grading a Diamond
Diamonds are graded by four categories, cut, clarity, color, and carat. The cut refers to the symmetry and polish of the diamond and how it will return light. If you’d like to see a lot of sparkles and shine from the center stone, then getting a higher grade cut will be important.
The second grading criteria is clarity. The clarity of the diamond refers to any blemishes, imperfections, or bubbles in the diamond. If you can’t see them without a microscope, then you should be good to go!
The color of the diamond refers to how clear or transparent it looks. Some diamonds show more of a yellow tint which means they would score lower on the color grading.
Lastly, you’ve probably heard someone talk about how many carats of gold something is, or how many carats a diamond is. This refers to the overall weight of the stone and usually correlates to the final price of the diamond.
