Wedding Day Timeline | A Great Way to Prepare for Your Day
We LOVE designing a customized photography wedding day timeline for our couples’ because they help wedding days go smoother, they keep everyone on the same page, and we really, really like to be prepared to capture the beginning of your legacy of love.
When it’s possible, we like to base your wedding day timeline on the sunset for your wedding day. We do this for a number of reasons, but the most important is that we want to save the soft, golden, and dreamy light for your first portraits as husband & wife. (eek, cue the cuddles! 😍❤️)
Just a couple of notes:
– Every wedding is different, so the below timeline is meant to be used as a sample for you to see how your wedding day can unfold with us.
– It is completely customizable and something we would finalize with you or your wedding coordinator.

Jocelyn becomes the Detail Queen setting up and arranging your bridal details and invitation suite to create magic. While Jocelyn’s doing her thing, Spencer’s taking photos of you and your bridesmaids getting ready, in your matching robes (hello to poppin’ champagne & confetti!), and the *finishing* touches of hair and makeup. We ALWAYS want you to feel comfortable so we’ll ask before taking photos before you’re feeling your best.
Spencer gets kicked out to go take photos of your groom and his groomsmen getting ready, and any details he has. And you get to put your wedding dress on! 😍 This is one of the most exciting moments (of so many) of your wedding day! Jocelyn will suggest making sure your bridesmaids and/or mom are dressed first so they look all dolled up in the photos when they’re helping you get dressed. She’ll spend some time taking photos of them around you, oohing and awwing (imagine your a Disney princess), and helping you with finishing touches.
First Look and Bride & Groom Portraits
We leave a little bit of buffer time to get to your first look location because it can be farther away, this is probably the most you’ve walked in your wedding dress to date, and it’s a good time to savor what’s about to happen.
Your first look is about the two of you. Of course, we’ll be there, but we like to make this time about you two sharing the first moments of your wedding day, together. We capture so many special and emotional moments during your first look because we allow time for you to relax, be present with each other, and talk about your day ahead.
And because you just finished getting ready, and you look uhhh-mazing, we like to take some photos of just the two of you before you’re rushed with bridal party and family members.
Bridal Party and Family Formals
With this wedding day timeline, we’re able to take all of your bridal party and family formal photos all before the ceremony because you’ve seen each other during your first look! This means that your bridal party and family get to join your cocktail hour after your ceremony and they don’t have to stick around for photos. They’re all done, cheers for the bridal party!!
Ceremony Decor and Ceremony
We always set aside time to photograph your ceremony decor before any of your guests arrive. Photos of the altar, chairs perfectly lined up, bouquets and flower arrangements, programs, everything. And once guests are seated and the ceremony starts we photograph all the big moments, like when he sees you coming down the aisle, your parents in the front rows, and your first kiss as a married couple!
Husband & Wife Portraits
This is our very favorite part of your wedding day! We get to whisk you away for your first portraits as husband & wife! We like to take these photos when the sun has almost set so the lighting is soft, creamy, and dreamy. We’ll take some traditional ones where you’ll both look directly at the camera (parents/grandparents love these), as well as some fun, emotional, and editorial-like photos. Don’t worry, we’ll guide you through the whole thing!
Reception Details & Coverage
We plan our wedding day timeline so that we’re able to sneak into the reception area before the rest of your guests to document all of the ‘Oooh-la-la’ gorgeous florals, linens, and details of the reception. This is the time where all the intricate details you and your planner have designed come together in real life! We love photographing it all in its untouched perfection.
During your reception, we photograph all of the special moments you have planned. Your grand entrance, first dance, any parent dances, cutting the cake, and toasts. We’ll also be taking photos of your family and friends dancing and having a great time. We want to be your eyes for the night, and make sure to give you both that extra perspective on your big day.
A photography wedding day timeline is super helpful for us, and most of our couples’ find it helpful when trying to envision their wedding day. Our top priority is giving you and your families the best wedding day experience possible.
